With help from our friends at the Dunedin Midwinter Carnival we are excited to be running a new and exciting experience for visitors in our forest.
Explore the Orokonui forest at night and discover a glowing world of manu, nocturnal music and magic! A special sanctuary lantern show and walking trail that celebrates some of our most treasured messengers – our native birds.
Small groups will be guided around the walk with time to take in the sights and sounds of lantern installations by the Midwinter Carnival team. Bookings are in one hour sessions.
Although wildlife is always on display at the sanctuary this will not be the focus of this event, if you are interested in learning more about our nocturnal wildlife of Orokonui check out our night tours.
The walk covers around 1.5km of walking across mostly flat gravel tracks, with some grassy sections, and a small amount of up and down. If you have concerns about accessibility please get in touch or check out the accessible sessions of this event, which takes a modified route to make the most of more accessible tracks.
Join in this unique fundraising event for Orokonui Ecosanctuary and Dunedin Midwinter Carnival. Working together to help our wildlife and communities thrive.
There are heaps of great events happening across Ōtepoti/Dunedin as part of Wild Dunedin the New Zealand Festival of Nature. To check out other events follow this link Wild Dunedin
See below for our accessible sessions. They will use a modified route to make the most of the flat, easily traversable tracks. The experience will be similar with a few installations not visible via this route. Please get in touch is you have any questions about accessibility for this event.
