Orokonui was founded by passionate volunteers and indeed it was some years before there was a paid staff member. The Ecosanctuary benefits from around 13,000 hours annually from over 100 active individuals. We have multiple teams working in different areas both inside and outside of the fence.
Thank you for considering volunteering at Orokonui. Volunteering Opportunities include (but are not limited to):
• Track maintenance
• Weed control
• Predator fence monitoring (8.7km)
• Pest monitoring
Volunteers must comply with conditions of participation:
The first step towards individual volunteering is contacting the Volunteer Coordinator, Alice Macklow who will give you updated information on the volunteer opportunities we have available and assist you in the process of becoming a volunteer. Please email Alice at email@example.com with your expression of interest including information such as tasks you are interested in, your fitness level, your availability and any special skills you can offer. There is no commitment to volunteer after this point.
