At our heart we are a community conservation project, so it’s no surprise how important locals are to the sanctuary. As volunteers, members, and visitors.
To acknowledge this support we are hosting a locals welcome weekend for Kings Birthday weekend 31st May – 2nd June.
During the weekend there will be discounted entry for Otago locals $10 for adults and $5 for kids, discounts at the cafe and shop, and talks and activities in the sanctuary for the whole whānau to enjoy.
Bring the kids along from 10am-2pm to make some free wildlife themed craft masks to bring out their wild side.
Head out into the sanctuary to learn more about our wildlife with free talks. Saturday, Sunday, & Monday.
11am – Takahē Talk at the takahē pond
12pm – Kākā talk at the platform feeder
1pm – Pond/Wetland Talk at the pond
Then head inside to make the most of the cafe as well as our 2pm talks in the Visitor’s Centre
Saturday 30th May 2pm – Pearl Barry: The return of green skinks to Orokonui, how are they doing?
Sunday 1st June 2pm – Taylor Davies-Colley: A look at the history of Orokonui and what it means for our future.
